Biome Project

Working together using this wiki:

Think of this wiki as a shared online whiteboard. Your entire group can share information using this wiki, making your research accessible to everyone. Play around with this wiki: Notice how you can add comments to a page, see what people have changed, and edit all the text.

Objective:

The objective of this project is for you and your partner(s) to learn more about your assigned biome than you would if we were to study all of them as a group. You and your partner(s) will pick the name of your biome out of a hat and create a Wiki about that biome on the Pingry Science Wiki. The specific details of the assignment are described below.

Format:

The design of your wiki is totally up to you and your partner(s). Illustrations, pictures, diagrams, maps, videos, etc. will help describe your biome and are highly encouraged. Your wiki should consist of the following 3 parts:

INFORMATION

The information that you will gather about your biome can be divided into the four categories listed below. Within each category are the specific questions that you should answer on your wiki. These are general questions, and not all of them will apply to each biome. Try to answer as many of them as you can to give your viewers a complete picture of what your biome is really like.

            Abiotic factors:

•    In which climate zone is your biome located?

•    How many seasons are there in your biome?

•    What is the range of temperatures throughout the year?

•    How much precipitation does your biome get?

•    What type(s) of soil can be found in your biome?

•    In which continents/countries is your biome located?

            Biotic factors:

•    What are the major types of plants that grow in your biome?

•    What are the major animal species that live in your biome?

•    What are the major producers and consumers that make up the food web in your biome?

•    Are there any unusual or rare plants/animals that live in your biome?

•    What unique characteristics does your biome have that enables it to support the specific types of plants/animals that live there?

•    How are the plants/animals that live in your biome adapted to living there?

            Human influences:

•    Do many people live in your biome? Why or why not?

•    What are the most significant changes that humans have made to your biome over the past several hundred years?

•    Are there any important natural resources that are found in your biome? If so what are they?

•    Have people made an effort to protect the plants/animals in your biome? If so, what efforts have been made?

            Interesting facts:

•    Any additional information that you find and think is particularly interesting and/or important about your biome.

•    For example: Has it been in the news lately? Are there any endangered species found in your biome?
